Much of the action aboard the ship takes place on deck, but it’s in the labs that data is collected into usable form.

Aboard the Revelle, the Electronics/Computer Lab is home to a series of computers that are key to translating information from instruments to numbers, images, plots that show what’s happening in a particular part of the ocean at any given moment. This information is presented on a wall of monitors. These monitors show viewers at a glance what the ocean floor looks like, the direction of the currents in the water column, where the ship is going and how it’s moving, meteorological conditions around the ship, and much more.
